Our next exciting Quiznight is being held this month on Saturday 14th March. Starting at 8pm Kevin Briggs, Quizmaster will be commencing his 100 questions for the evening and we’ll be enjoying the battle of the wits or the witless! (In my case). Anyone can join in. Teams of up to 8 people welcome at a cost of only £4 per head. Under 16’s free. Bring your own drinks and nibbles for a great night out. We enjoy two breaks during the evening ( where Kevin marks the papers) and we get to relax, eat and drink. So if you fancy a good night out, come along, no need to book. We’d love to see you.
Now for some hot off the press news. The Centre will be holding a Tabletop Sale in the main sports hall at the centre on Sunday 5th April. With table hire available for just £10 what an opportunity to go through those cupboards and wardrobes as you spring clean and sort out any items you want to declutter and make a little money at the same time. Why wait for Boot-sales to open and for the weather to be kind enough to warrant standing outdoors at this time of year. Book your table and know you’ll in the dry and warm along with your buying customers. Plus there’s plenty of free parking and no getting bogged down in mud afterwards. What’s not to like?
If you’d like to book a table or have a query regarding this then please call me on 07823777201 or email me on tables@wmcc.org.uk
Table setup will commence at 12.45pm on the day with doors opening to purchasers at 1.30pm for 3 hours. What a great way to spend your Sunday afternoon.
Get in touch asap. if you’d like to book and ensure you get a table.
There will of course be refreshments available for purchase to enhance the experience.
This month we’d also like to tell you about one of our regular clients at the Centre, Maldon Orchestra. They are are a thriving community orchestra which has been active in Maldon for over 70 years. They currently have 56 members of all abilities who meet and play together on a Friday night. They have a full concert diary for 2020 with seven completely different concerts ranging from free concerts at several locations, two outside concerts during the summer, a performance at the Chelmsford Cathedral in June for SSAFA Essex and a show with the Maldon Drama Group in Maldon in November in aid of the David Randall Foundation.
Their repertoire is as varied as their concerts as they don't play typically long classical pieces. Instead they play show tunes, pop, swing, abridged classical, film and jazz. They occasionally invite a choir to join performances and this year will be sharing concerts with the Colchester Military Wives Choir and the Chelmsford Male Voice Choir.
Maldon Orchestra don't charge for their involvement in concerts so that any monies raised can go to local charities using concerts as an opportunity for their players to experience performing to a live audience.
In 2018 they were awarded the Pride of Essex Award - Team of Pride which is testament to the team effort which drives their success. They are fortunate to have a hugely talented Musical Director - Ron Bewers who in conjunction with an enthusiastic and supportive Management Committee drive the Orchestra’s growth and development.
New members are always welcome to enquire directly to the Maldon Orchestra via their website MaldonOrchestra.co.uk . Whilst the Orchestra is full in a few sections they would like to hear from anyone who can play an orchestral instrument so get in touch if you’d like to know more.
Alternatively if you are just interested in hearing them play, visit their website for more details of their performance schedule for 2020.
See you next month.
