Editorial Maldon Life June 2021
Well having opened up once again and the committee having held a face to face meeting in May rather than a zoom meeting , it finally feels as if we are returning back to some semblance of normality. Now we look forward to welcoming back many of our old clients ( if we haven’t already seen you) and hopefully many new ones.
Naturally during the closure period there have been changes, with Jim our facilities manager having stepped back from his additional duties. We would like to thank him for all the years he ran the centre so ably. We consider ourselves fortunate that he has kindly agreed to remain part of the caretaking team.
Following the use of the centre as a COVID 19 testing site by Essex County Council, and prior to the resumption of hires, the caretakers led by Duncan, our new facilities manager have again been making sure the centre is back in tiptop condition. In particular the floor in the sports hall has been stripped back and revarnished so it is once again in tip top condition. An air conditioning unit has been repaired, with cleaning of course a priority throughout the whole centre. This means that our usual shutdown period this year will be reduced considerably. Good news for hirers.
We are also delighted to advise that Councillor Flo Shaughnessy will also be resuming her surgery held on 1st Saturday in the month on June 5th. So if you have any issues or concerns you would like to discuss, pop along and see her in the Jubilee Lounge. Flo will be available between 10 and 12 noon.
More good news awaits us in the form of our Quiz nights. Yes, they are resuming at last with our first one due on Saturday 4th September. We are grateful that Kevin Briggs our wonderful quizmaster will once again be fronting the quiz despite all his recent success as a DJ with the Caroline Community radio station 94.7 FM serving Maldon and the local district.
So please get that date in your diaries. We are currently looking at setting more dates and will let you know as soon as they are available.
So looking forward and obviously subject to any rules laid down by the government in the interim please be aware that we now have dates available where the centre is available for hire. Lisa our bookings manager will be delighted to hear from you. Remember that the office is not manned full time, leave a contact number and message and we will get back to you as soon as we are able. Or alternatively email us on bookings@wmcc.org.uk.
We look forward to seeing or hearing from you soon. It’s good to be back.
